The song's name in itself may explain a child's wants or, this reason not being as happy, a lack of satisfaction in who they are. A typical time or setting is around other people, especially in school if they aren't a very popular person. They yearn to be something else- something or someone the people around them will accept and like. What would be the girl in this song may just not know what the people around her find to be good qualities in a person, so she wants to be everything in order to please them, in order to make friends. She may not even know if the not as positive qualities like "mean", "scary", and "old" won't be taken so well- she wants to be everything in order for people to notice and love her. She wants to be everything except herself. In a few examples she lists, she wants to be kind ("sweet"), attractive ("hot"), popular ("royal", "cool"), and doesn't want to be held down by responsibility ("free"). Perhaps she sees these traits in the "royals" the people around her seem to like, and wants to be just like them so she can be accepted. She may not know that she'll always be accepted by someone just because of who she is.

Whoever this woman is, she may be pretending to be someone she isn't. At this point it could be obvious to her table mates and/or whoever she came with that she really isn't who she says she is (most likely personality-wise). She may be aware of this and tried to get away for a bit in order to compose herself, saying that she really is what she says she is. It's a typical sociopathic trait, believing one's own lies or at least trying to. She most likely looks and acts like she's trying just too hard to get them to believe her.

I thought this song was about a girl who desperately loved a boy, and perhaps they were together, perhaps they weren't. She knows she's a fool for loving him so much, then proceeds to find him with another, apparently more "pleased" than with her. "Blurred" could be her own tears, or a dizzy feeling following what she discovers. She starts a "war" with either him or this "other girl", likely a losing battle, trying so hard to get him to know how much she loves him. Perhaps the part concerning her "skirt flap" may be desperate measures, wearing shorter skirts or more revealing ones to catch his eye in a less than positive way. I think the situation got a /little/ out of hand, seeing as she wants to use, to be honest, lust in order for him to notice how she feels. It's a demeaning path to take. She can't "get hold of her feelings"- she can't let go. She can't stop loving him anymore. Maybe "awakening" is a wake-up call to sense or to love again, seeing as only his kiss or his proclamation of affection would be what brings her back. She's drifting into "lost cause" territory and can't come back until he says or shows he loves her. Love really is war.
