Well, I suppose I might as well be the first to decode this. Finnegan' s Wake is a folk song, and as with many folk songs, it doesn't really have any sort of double-meaning. We start by being introduced to our friend Tim the Irishman, who is very 'odd' which back then referred to good fortune as opposed to strangeness. He carries a God for a living, which could refer to many occupations. Tim is a drunk. One day, as he is working under intoxication, he takes a bad fall and is believed to be dead. The 'wake' is an Irish funeral custom that involves lots of wailing and mourning. At Tim's wake, some of the women began to fight, which escalated into an all-out brawl. During his fight, a cask of liquor is accidentally dumped on the corpse of Tim, who is miraculously revived, having been merely unconscious the entire time. By the way, gob=mouth, face. Thanks for your time!
