What I got out of this song was about a woman leaving a family to pursue after her dreams. Reasons why she left are a bit vague but there's some evidence that say she no longer has feelings for the man "You say it's too late now your flames burnt out". Some other meanings I found were that the woman didn't seem to even try and fix their problems because she's always quitting before she can over come obstacles. At the end of the song the man tries to tell the woman to come back so they can make the relationship work not only for them but for their two children "now I'm left with two". The man also began to realize that he might have been part of the problem because he says "And we will try to do the right thing" instead of ending with "do the right thing". So the moral of this song is a story that contradicts to image of love that was depicted into out minds as a powerful connection between two people that is unbreakable.
