I just read on the bands website that this song really is about a lovesick vampire. I've read the Twilight books myself & can see how it could be worked into one of the movies but I can also relate on a completely non-vampiric (not sure that's a word!) level. Regardless of the Twilight love/hate debate going on here all it really comes down to is appreciation of the song & as hazzi00 said it's the beauty of musical art.
