This song is saying that in order for anything to be truly over, I. E. A relationship, both people have to let go and move on. And in this song he talks about how a person is holding on to their old relationship and it's hampering his life, things just didn't work out, and the other person has to realize that, it'll never happen again. Just let go, and move on.
