This was a love from a long time ago, a love that was everything at the time, but time and wounds and disappointment have changed both people. He knows he can't love the same again, doesn't even want to, he's had to become a different person and he's comfortable with that, but seeing her brings back who he was. A part of him doesn't want to go there, doesn't want to ruin what was with what is.

My interpretation of these lyrics is that the song is about someone who has 'blown' their relationship with their previous partner ("she's the only one, lost the best I owned") through cheating ("these arms of mine don't mind who they own").
They know what falling in love feels like (Seen it in my hands, burns in my heart) and they recognize that it's happening again with a new person, but they can't allow themselves to fall in love because they are still too attached to the previous partner?
