St. Lucia – All Eyes On You lyrics

This song is probably about a person who shared words of affection to a beloved one in the nighttime, and had.
"all eyes" on this person. He loves this person and will "take all that he can" from her; one of these things is her attention. He is always focused on her and therefore speaks to her often, calling her in the nighttime and in the daytime.

However, the person probably has been separated from his loved one, either by distance or from an argument, maybe both.
Conflict theory: The narrator constantly hopes that he will not have to take back the words they said on their good night because of an argument that happened later on. He is still willing to come back to the narrator. He is still watching and waiting, standing by like a "mirror on the shelf."
Distance theory: Perhaps the narrator is hoping that he will be able to "come back" to the person, and in the meantime, they are both just "standing by," awaiting their reunion and keeping in contact, calling often and hoping that nothing changes between them.

As for the "can't fess up to you," this leaves us wondering, what is he unable to fess up about? Perhaps he loves this person but is unable to confess his feelings for her.
No confession theory: The words spoken in the nighttime probably came close to his confession, but it was moreso just affirming the good feelings, maybe not so much as a confession. He just can't fess up to her about his true feelings.
Confession theory: However, say it was a confession, that could be a support for the conflict theory. He uttered his feelings as words "soft spoken in the dead of night," and this changed things between them. Now the two are just "standing by," unsure of what should happen, and the narrator is hoping that his interest will come back so that he will never have to regret his words.
