She's singing about a hard-bitten (tough and cynical) girl who lives alone and lives her life independently, pretending that she is beyond such things as love etc but is in actual fact quite lonely. After having bottled up her emotions for too long she finally breaks down over the lack of text from the man she loves.

She hits her breaking point and doesn't care that her perfect image is no longer intact behind closed doors because she's heartbroken. In the world she’s living in, she isn’t one to show her emotions outright and neither are the people she surrounds herself with.

"It’s lonely at the top, black outs and airplanes" - She lives her life in the fast lane and it’s implied that she’s wealthy.
"And I still pour you champagne." - She carries on pretending that nothing has changed to the man she loves and doesn’t let on to him that she’s actually in agony.

She tries to take her mind off things by not thinking about it but it's "agony", she’s lonely behind her façade.

This song is trying to say that people get there hearts broken and think oh I am too old to be crying but when in truth and in fact people cry when there hearts are breaking everyone has there times, sometimes you might hold it in but there is going to be a time when you can't keep it in anymore you are just going to cry and no matter where you are you are going to cry people give up on you they say they will always be there when they wont and you will soon realize that they are going to leave they are going to give up on you they wont always be there so you just have to accept it you will sit there checking your phone every minute when you know in your heart that they wont call so it makes no sense you sit there and wait for them to call because they wont and all you are doing is wasting your time there sitting and saying oh he or she is going to call when they wont they are just going to give up on you and don't given care meanwhile you sit there waiting when the phone will not ring listen life sucks so don't waste your time waiting.

I had two impressions about this song; first about a lonely rich girl, and second about a woman who had survive this life all by herself for a little too long.

The first verse: It's about a teenage girl who lives on a high class, all of her life already planned out and restricted by her parents. Which is why she has no time to act like her own age. But deep inside, she craves it. She craves her life.

The pre-hook: It seems like she has grown into a woman who lives by her own and pay her own. There is a moment where she doesn't know how to spent her time by her own, she try to act busy and check her phone for message, but the truth is her social life is close to none. That's why there is nothing interesting. She has no friend, because her previous restricted life. She is lonely.

Chorus: the make up part is representing her outer look, the mask she's wearing outside to shield what she actually feels inside. The line "I may cry ruining my make up" tell us that she considering to ruin her mask so people know the turmoil inside her, she wants to let it go.

"Wash away all the things you've taken" is about how she wants to forget her past and all the things that has been taken from her; her childhood, her need for affection, her possibility to make friends, her change to be a teenager, and her happiness. She actually wants to move on from her unhappy past.

"I don't care if i don't look pretty" is saying about how she doesn't care anymore about the way people see her as, she doesn't care if she's not looking perfect. For once she wants to let it all out.

"Big girls cry when their is breaking" - even the toughest girl can break.

Verse 2: the word says it all; she is in pain. She feels so lonely living in a high class.
"And I still pour you a glass of champagne". But doesn't matter how in pain she is, she always try to suck it up and once again wear her mask, she still even try to please other people (the Champagne part).

And that's what I get from this song.

This song is about a process called monarch programming. It is when someone is tortured by the same person repeatedly in the attempt to create someone with an alter persona, a common result of when a person endures unbearable pain repeatedly. This "alter persona" is like a second person in one body. This second person will be a slave to the torturer and will do whatever the torturer wants, even at the expense of themselves.

The first part says that she has no time for love or hate or drama: she is in the fast lane. This represents that she has no time to fight back from all the pain and torture, or any time to resist and keep her opinions and emotions. Her life is fast-paced torture with no time in between to let herself enjoy the basic emotions or thoughts. She is beginning to lose herself.

The second part says that she is at home, but there is nothing on her phone and watching TV is agony. This shows that she is trying to come back to a normal life in her mind, but there is nothing left of it for her to try to picture herself in. Her old life is slipping through her fingers.

In the chorus, her makeup represents an altered version of herself that her torturer has created. She wants to wash it all away. When she says "all the things you've taken" she is talking about her face underneath all that makeup that has been masked and taken away. She wants to cry and wash it all off because her her heart is breaking.

The next part talks about how she is lonely. There are blackouts. This represents that her life is gone and been replaced by a blackout. Yet, she still pours the glass of champagne, representing that she willingly gives her torturer a privileged life, even at her own expense.

The part where she says, "away I go" 13 times shows that her old self (the self before her alter persona took over her body as a result of the monarch programming) has gone away.

The music video to this song shows Maddie Ziegler rubbing her hands all over face, contorting it in different ways. She gets no break. This represents the fast-paced torture. Throughout the music video, we also see several other things. She is held up by her neck as a form of torture. She puts her thumb in her mouth, representing a childlike innocence, but she then takes it out of her mouth and wiggles her fingers as she pulls her hand away, representing that her innocence has disintegrated. We see other hands (the hands of the torturer) controlling her facial expressions, showing that her torturer has complete control over her. We see her shove her hands in her mouth, showing that she is being forced to ingest things as a from of torture. We see her eyes being held open, showing that she is being forced to watch something she doesn't want to. We see the words "don't think" written on her hand, a common phrase told to monarch programming victims. At the end, we see her look around as if seeing the world for the first time, showing that her alter persona has taken over and she will start her life over as her torturer's slave.

Indeed this song is about a rough more painful breakup.However the irony lies in the fact that the girl is not yet done with the boy.She still longs for him as witnessed by her actions of pouring hm champgne though in absence.The girl expresses her lonely misery life in the pre hook when she talks about her lifestyle more of her daily routine in other words when she says *I go home, on my own,check my phone........*This clearly explains or shows that previously her lifestlye was not like this ,indeed there was someone in her life who made her feel special and would always be in his company.Now considering the title of the song when SHE SAYS *BIG GIRLS CRY* she is clearly indicating that it does not matter how old she is hurting is hurting and hence this situation is breaking therefore there is no exemption for big girls not to cry because she has been hurt.
