Orleans – Dance With Me lyrics
Dance with me, I want to be your partner
Can't you see the music is just starting?
Night is Falling, and I am Calling
Dance with me

Fantasy could never be so killing
I feel free, I hope that you are willing
Pick the beat up, and kick your feet up
Dance with me

Let it lift you off the ground
Starry eyes, and love is all around
I can take you where you want to go

Dance with me, I want to be your partner
Can't you see the music is just starting?
Night is Falling, and I am Calling
Dance with me

Let it lift you off the ground
Starry eyes, and love is all around
I can take you where you want to go

Dance with me, I want to be your partner
Can't you see the music is just starting?
Night is Falling, and I am Calling
Dance with me

Will you won't you, will you won't you, will you come to the dance? This song has always been a source of guilty pleasure for me. I sing with the radio if I'm alone or in hushed tones with my ukulele. It is a celebration of the mythical dance between the genders, much like a midsummer night's dream, but in full throated three part harmony. It's not about what actually happens, but about our yearning for the way it might be. Somebody had my number a long, long time ago. And now I've grown too old for anyone to want to dance with me. Don't let that happen to you. When you are asked to the dance, join in the celebration as if with the sprites and fairies. And, if you don't get asked, do the asking.

As I listened to the song today, I imagined it was God who wanted to dance with me. He wants to be my partner in life and He is better than any fantasy could be. He wants to dance with me and take me places I cannot go by myself and lift me off my feet. With every new day, the music starts and He is calling me to dance with Him.

This a wonderful song. I have an 11 years old granddaughter who thoroughly enjoys her interpretive dance class and adores her grandpa. I intend to learn this on my guitar and play it as an acknowledgement of her passion for dance and an expression of my love for her. Also, I might seek interpretive dance instruction for this specific song, for that 'Special' dance with grandpa on the day she gets married.

Btw, nomansmaid, you need to find an old-fashioned sweetheart, not some "dude" who you think wants to wipe his feet on you. (And if he does, or if you are indeed his maid, that's your fault, sister -- not his!) I am a woman in the truest sense of the word, and this is the trouble with younger women (girls) today -- they don't look deep enough to find out neat things about a man (boy), to find out what he likes, what he enjoys doing, hobbies, favorites, books he reads, tv shows he watches, fave movies, hopes and dreams, what he remembers from his childhood, etc. I bet you'd be surprised to find out that men (boys) are a lot deeper than the surface, but unfortunately, due to today's raunchy society (plus the way young women act and talk nowadays), they think all you want is s**, not love-making. There's a ginormous diff, my friend. I hope someday you'll be fortunate enough to find a sweetheart --all women deserve that happiness. And think on this: Maybe you're looking for love in all the wrong places? --J.

I don't think these lyrics are sordid at all. To me they signify a guy (man) wanting to hold me, carress me, make love to me in a rhythm of sweetness and extreme pleasure. I'd give my left pinkie if a man wanted to "take me where I want to go"! Isn't that what love-making is all about -- taking another person past fanatsy and beyond the limits of what you'd ever dreamed of? To the highest heights? --J.
