Matt Redman – 10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord) lyrics
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I worship Your holy name

The sun comes up; it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I worship Your holy name

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing
10,000 reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
10,000 years and then forever more

Bless the
Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I worship Your holy name

Bless the Lord, O
my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I worship Your holy name
I worship Your holy name
I worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I worship Your holy name
I worship Your holy name
I worship Your holy name

We sing this in church, I find this song to be quite worshipful, like the hymns of old, that I grew up with. In this song your telling the part of yourself that connects with the holy spirit, your soul (you're saying to your soul), Bless the lord, then saying to your soul, Oh my Soul, Worship his (God's) Holy Name, song is not saying to worship your own soul. Where do you get this stuff? We also sing another song Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul, And All That Is Within Me, Bless His Holy Name, Everyone knows we're saying Bless Gods Holy Name, even though it's only implied, and in that song we're not telling ourselves to bless our souls either. I believe that anyone who's not trying to pick the song apart, to find fault would understand what is being said. I could see if their was a blatant disregard for god in a song, but I don't sense that in this song. I will say, I do not like Christian Rock, we are supposed to be set a part, different, not imitating the world. When you can't even make out the words, your not getting God's message out, your just like any other Rock Band with Loud Head Banging Music. My Husband used to play in Rock Bands for a living, I know the difference.

The chorus already states who the song is directed to. "The Lord". You guys are depressing. "Stop straining on gnats and swallowing camels". Matt 23:24 You guys are being so technical and missing the whole point of the song. You're majoring in the minors and minoring in the majors. It's a great song and the majority of the people singing this song "GET IT". So stop it! Don't let the devil use you to taint the heart of God's people to such a beautiful song. :)

Seriously? Y'all don't understand the song.
"O my soul i worship Your Holy name."
That means my soul is worshiping him, God. That phrase doesn't mean I'm worshiping my soul.
Quite disrespecting my favorite song! You're missing the whole point of the song. This is the best Christian song ever! And this is not a mindless, grammatically, incorrect evil song. Your the one acting all evil like. For some reason the devil is using you.

Why did he decide to switch from the third person (the Lord) to the second person (Your)? Why not just leave it one way or the other? It's downright careless.

I am sure Mr. Redman just wanted to write a catchy song that would sell. But switching the terminology like that is confusing at best and heresy at worst. Language matters! God communicates to us through language.

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. In the beginning was not my own soul.

We need to be more careful when it comes to the lyrics that we sing. This would have been a fine praise song if Redman had simply paid more attention to the lyrics. He could have easily left it as "His" Holy Name throughout.

Asher p, you don't know your bible, I've met people like you before, someone once told me that you should not use I, my or me, in a song because it only talks of ones self so I wrote a song with the words from the 23rd psalm, it starts with the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want, he leads me beside the still waters He restarted My soul, there are more i's and my's and me in there than The Lord, that does not mean that the psalmist has any disrespect in any way for the sovereignty of God, get a life and stop messing up the church with your pharisee's mentality. Its in the bible Bless the Lord oh my soul, and forget not all his benefits. And grow up while your at it.

I know what I'm saying. Even though I'm an eleven year old kid. I'm a Christian. I don't know this website that much. But when I was praying god spoke to me and told me to look up Lyricsmode.com and search Matt Redman "1,000 Reasons" when I saw what you said. I prayed and ask god is it true? Is it true that this song is wrong? He told me no. I asked him. "what do you want me to do? Why did you show me this?" He told me "I want you to go and correct him. Tell him what you need to tell him."
So what I'm telling you is your wrong. You have to believe me! Even though I'm 11. Trust me. The devil is using you. Trust me.

AsherP is right on the money: These lyrics were written carelessly. In the chorus, Redman begins by addressing his own soul, exhorting it to bless the Lord and "worship His holy name". So far, so good, but at the end of the chorus he suddenly says, "I worship YOUR holy name" without any indication that he is now addressing the Lord. I know what he means, but in the song as written, Redman is saying he worships the holy name of his own soul. Had he merely repeated the line above and said "I worship His holy name", there would be no problem. Likewise, he could have said "Lord, I worship your holy name," and thus made the change in the sentence's object explicit. I'm really not one to quibble over minor grammatical errors, but once you notice this one, it is extremely jarring. If Matt Redmon had put more than two seconds of thought into what he was really writing, he would have written this song differently, and if Christians put any thought at all into the words they are singing to God, they won't sing this song as written.

This song is heresy. "Oh my soul, I'll worship Your Holy name."

Seriously. You are worshiping your own soul?!?!?!

That is evil. You should worship God, not your own soul.

This is not a Christian song. Christian songs praise God, not ourselves. This is a mindless, grammatically incorrect and evil song.
