To me, masterpiece theatre 1 is about a man who is obsessed with a role he portrays in a show. He is obsessing about this role because he is not happy with his own life. He talks about is his own character and when the audience judges the performance on stage, they are judging him because he wants to be his character and not just portray it. The last line "if this is just a part i portray, i don't know how it got this way" means that he doesn't understand how he got so obsessed with the role.

The opening of the whole entire album starts off with the orchestra tuning up but cuts off the scene where the orchestra does a loud triumphant ending to the D sharp version of Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra 'Sunrise' and the lyrics start off by saying "First it comes on quiet, creeping slow!" Meaning Josh Ramsay's dislikes in classical music has its own personality and reality. "Clever words and phrases only stain!" Means that the old fashioned words would fall apart to the modern words. Then Josh Ramsay sings the lines "My masterpiece will fall apart, It was over before the start!" Because he doesn't know why classical music is so boring to him?
The orchestra's tuning up their instruments is in the opening and with a bigger ending of a classical music piece to either 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' or Verdi's final score from his opera 'Paggitto' in which the finale is dramatic and it comes from an orchestra studio somewhere in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in the late autumn of 2009.
