Lady Gaga – Bloody Mary lyrics
Love is just a history that they may prove
And when you're gone I'll tell them my religion's you

When Pontius come to kill the king upon his throne
I'm ready for their stones.

I'll dance, dance, dance
With my hands, hands, hands,
Above my head, head, head
Like Jesus, said
I'm gonna dance, dance, dance
With my hands, hands,
Hands above my head
Dance together
Forgive him before he's dead because

I won't cry for you
I won't crucify the things you do
I won't cry for you, see
When you're gone I'll still be bloody Mary

(Scream)

We are not just art for Michaelangelo
To carve. He can't rewrite the agro of my furied,
Heart. I'll wait On mountain tops in Paris cold
Je ne veux pas mourire toute seule
I'll dance, dance, dance
With my hands, hands, hands,
Above my head, head, head
Like Jesus, said
I'm gonna dance, dance, dance
With my hands, hands,
Hands above my head
Dance together
Forgive him before he's dead because

I won't cry for you
I won't crucify the things you do do do
I won't cry for you, see
When you're gone I'll still be bloody Mary

(Scream)

Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga
Dum dum da da da
Dum dum da da da da da da
Dum dum da da da
Dum dum da da da da da da

Dum dum da da da

I won't cry for you
I won't crucify the things you do do do
I won't cry for you (Gaga), see (Gaga)
When you're gone (Gaga) I'll still be Bloody Mary (Gaga)

Hoah hoah hoah (Gaga) hoah hoah hoah (Gaga) hoah hoah hoah (Gaga)
Hoah hoah hoah (Gaga) hoah hoah hoah (Gaga)

Oh, Liberdade, mi amor

This song is about mary magdaline and jesus's personal relationship/love affair. For example the lyric: when your (jesus) gone i'll tell them my religion is you (jesus). Mary will not be ashamed of her more than platonic relationship with christ nor should she and she is ready to defend him even if she faces persecution.
The lyric when your gone I will still be bloody mary referes to the fact that she was ready for the stoning, hence bloody all in the name of her lover, jesus. And she is going to dance and celebrate despite persecution b/c she knows what wonders lay ahead. (btw punk-tius is cleary a play on pontius pilot the man who gave the go ahead with the crucifiction). This is a love song.
Interesting fact: the song mentions paris, supposedly mary had a child with jesus, a girl and she and her child fled to the south of france and supposedly the girls bloodline eventually became the powerful marovigions, a powerful line of kings that ruled france.
Lady gaga is apparently very learned and I have become a fan, she is a creative force to be reckoned with. I love madonna but gaga has taken her work and launched it further, way further, and I love that she writes her own songs, madonna did not. Lady gaga has my respect.

It is just her way of emencipating her commonstate. Gaga I have something to tell you: don't you ever come to my house again and stand on my roof top if you want me ask me nice coz you and the movement think you can scare me by just knocking on my roof but next time i'll come out and give you what you want and that's my body. I probably hate you but the movement loves uuu.

With this song I think that lady gaga is telling everyone not to judge her or even hate her for what she is or does. Because just like all of us she's just a human being and an imperfect individual too. And I think she's kinda little bit mad or irritated to those people who always criticized her that she feels like stones were thrown against her but even though she's hurt she's "always ready for their stones".
Having faith with jesus. And instead of keeping hatred in her heart. She will just dance and have fun and enjoy her life. And she won't cry, or crucify the things people do. Meaning, whatever people say against her. She doesn't care. Though shes bleeding inside. Overall evaluation. Lady gaga is a good person.

Lol, everyone needs to cool their s*t. Just because this is how Gaga expresses herself doesn't mean she's satanic. Stop using religion to justify everything. It's people like you who make it being Christian impossible. I'm sure Jesus accepts her just the way she is and if you have a problem with that then leave it to yourself - of if you need be, pray for her. Her relationship with Jesus is their business, not yours.

Gaga knows exactly who God is. She knows God more than some of the christians know God. All of the things that you hear about gaga is true because she is straight forward about loving judas but I think she's lost shame she needs prayer. Why would she sing about Mary when there are a lot of names in the world she could've used jessica or jennifer. She thinks she can bring God down and that is so impossible. Satan doesn't wanna burn alone in hell Gaga n others will accompany him.

No gaga knows exactly what she s doing and what she s involved in and it s much bigger and deeper than you can imagine. You would nt you know about spiritual matters and the reality of demonic worship unless it had happened to you - do not think it does nt exist because it most certainly does. I used to think that songs and words were just innocent and fun but not any more. Music is supposed to be emotive so it stirs up different emotions in you such as sensual, angry or depressing and most songs contain these. Lucifer (satan) was the head musician in heaven before God cast him down for wanting to be like him so no wonder music is affecting people in such a damaging way - that s why so many commit suicide through listening to certain songs. Anyway if you want to really find out there are plenty of books and webpages dedicated to this kind of thing, but I suggest you start looking in the Bible to start off with. X

Oh my goodness, some of these comments have made me laugh. Why analyse her lyrics so much! It is a good song, she is a wonderful person and wants the world to change for the better! Maybe some of her lyrics make her seem against jesus but she is a christian so why would she write lyrics against jesus or god. Noone knows the meanings to her songs, unless she explains it in an interview you will never know so stop guessing! Ha.
And being g**, lesbian or transgender may be a choice to some, but why chose it if you know you'll get bullied for most of your life. I believe in the lyrics to born this way that god makes no mistake and people are born that way, and to quote the comment below, "Sorry guys but it's true".
And she doesn't cover her eye because it hypnotism or she's an iluminati. It's a sign for being a Pirate! Lol :)

This song to me saying hold on why do we all worship jesus and forget about mery as the mother of juesus who bring the lord in to this world. By to me no one cares she's forgotten about no one says thx you to her or even thinks of the pain she would of when throw after jesus die is like that every one forgets about that or neglecs tothink about it.
So I belve gagas looked in to the way Mary would feel about ever think and that's this song.
Blood Mary- is like say Mary is still bleeding to day coz of juesus dieing and she is forgotten about.
I do love this song .

I wouldn't say that I have a meaning, per se, for this song, but I would like to make a few points.
1st: The French lyric doesn't mean "You don't want to die alone.", it means "I don't want to die alone." 'Veux' is the present indicatif of 'vouloir', not a misspelling of 'vous'. (And, by the way, 'mourrir' is misspelled. It should be 'mourir'.)
2nd: While the religious symbolism throughout the album could point to the Virgin Mary or Mary Magdalene, there are other possible meanings for that reference.
It's commonly known that the English Queen Mary, daughter of Henry viii and the elder sister of Elizabeth I, was called "Bloody Mary". She acquired that name because she was a Catholic who persecuted and killed Protestants when she became queen.
Also, there is a folk legend called "Bloody Mary" who appears when summoned by saying her name into a mirror.
All things considered, I think those who see the references as metaphors are correct. To read everything literally is to impose a meaning that may not be there. Really, think about some of the lyrics by The Beatles or Stevie Nicks, just to name a couple who immediately come to mind. Can you parse those out word by word and find a literal translation? Of course, not. This is someone's art, not a newspaper article.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but it's pontius, as in pontius pilate, the man responsible for ordering christ's death. I'm sure someone has probably pointed this out but I just wanted to anyway. I'm pretty sure the official lyrics that come with the disc say that as well, but I just moved 700 miles and heaven knows where that is right now -_- there's no such thing as "punk-tius," I'm pretty sure, and since the song is obviously heavily relying on biblical references I'm sure it's pontius.

Her music always has a meaning.
This particular song (i love it) is about mary magdalene. It's about the pressures she has being divine, holy and sinless but being human at the same time. "with a subtext" about how she's meant to be a real woman and an superstar at the same time.
“ I believe that mary magdalene was both fully divine and fully human. She has to be strong when jesus fulfills the prophecy to die for everyone’ s sins, but she still has the moment of humanity where she’ s upset to let him go. She had to be a superstar, but she must have cried too. ” - gaga.
That's all lady gaga's said about it.
    Hope I helped. :)

No one has said anything about the connection between gaga and mary. I'm certain that the chorus is gaga stating how she realized that she'd like to use her music career in the name of jesus. There's so many religious and catholic symbols in this album. Guess what ya'lls. Her first album had the overwhelming masonic views and demonstrated how that was part of "the fame monster! " born this way is a different part of gaga that we're getting to know. I think it's funny that people can still be against her. This song has probably made alot of people look more into religion which is always good.

When are you guys going to wake up? The lady is evil and her lyrics portrays this. She is a master of deceiption - this is why you think she is so amazing. Let me tell you - she will oneday feel the wrath of god's fury. And she knows it too. This is why she says in the beginning of the song that she is ready for their stones. You gotta find god in your heart girl.

I think this song is about her ex boyfriend because she once said that he told her she's will die alone and she says in the song "je ne veux pas mourir tout seule" (translated: I don't want to die alone) so I guess bloody mary is about the bad things he didn't to her and she how she has to be strong even when they broke just like how mary magdalene had to be strong when jesus died in the christian faith :)

This song is about she won't take revenge on someone who did bad thing on her. As what she said in the song. 'like jesus said' so even people is gonna throw rocks at her she will stay by jesus' words. Forgiveness. She is saying that even if she take revenge or kill that person she will still be bloody mary. It means, she will still be broken hearted. It won't erase the pain that person did on her, which on the music video is killing her beloved guy. Dancing with hands above her head means, she'll just gonna pray for her. "i'll wait on mountain tops of paris cold" even if she is in pain. She'll wait for the person to realize his/her own wrong actions.

Shes not saying that jesus said for us to dance with our hands above our hands. If you look at the lyrics there is a comma for a reason. Means that its conected to the next words and don't connect with the words before it. Go back to school if you can't figure that out. And everyone has their own opion about this song. I am roman catholic and proud of it, I also like this song. I don't like most of her songs but this one I do. She doesn't only mention religion theres also history so stop picking and choosing cause you don't have all the info to make an arguement. When I sing the dancing part I think of it as praise cause our hands are reaching above our heads to god.
Don't dig so deep into these things, you will only upset yourself and get confused. If its not a song for you then its not, this generation of people are custom to this kind of music and theres nothing that can be done. Time will only go forward and the best thing that can be done is for the generation before them to stand up and show them whats right. So if you don't like the song, then don't sit there and complain, that's not going to stop anyone from moving forward and not thinking twice about it. Have a merry christmas.

Stop hatin her! Arent we catholics supposed to be very tolerant of other people's wrongdoings as stated by jesus.
How come you love to criticize others instead of just learning to look at what their doin in a different point of view.
Anyway I'm a catholic but I'm a little monster as well! Stop the crap guyz just enjoy gaga because she's the only artist who can arouse your anger!

I'm so confused that the "bloody mary" it seems everyone has pointed to is either the virgin mary or mary magdalene. Does anyone realize that there is a famous historical figure called "bloody mary"? Queen may I (bloody mary) was the queen of england before queen elizabeth I. Bloody mary was a catholic queen and was infamous for burning protestants at the stake for being heretics. I'm not saying that this is clearly what the song is about, but this is a more obvious reference.

There's only one person who can explain the lyrics and that's the writer. I'm not even sure if lady gaga wrote them! At the top of this page it quotes sparks, clinton/unknown writers? It's not clear if it is actually her song? If it isn't, then there's no point asking what it's about in relation to her. Even if it is her song. There is someone bigger than her. The media cooperation that holds her up. Then the in his mercy, the god who holds the co-operation up.

You people are kind of dumb. She's not a devil worshiper, she uses religion to express real life event and happenings. Judas was not about her loving the man that betrayed Jesus, it was about falling in love with the wrong man/person over again but still wanting to live the right one. I can deffinitley see that in the halls at my school, chicks dig bad kids (: P) but want to love the right ones to love, that live back, like Jesus.

I think Gaga is either very confused about the Christian faith, perhaps searching for peace and fulfillment, purposely misleading people or in complete gaga land! She mentions Jesus and makes biblical references which are completely wrong and made up which tells me that Jesus is actually posing a threat to her self made glorification. I ll just pray for her to know and accept the truth - that there is absolutely nothing she can do to achieve the status which Jesus had and still has - there is no one or nothing above him - he is number 1. I do feel sorry for her and more sorry for her 'followers' who seem to be putting her on a pedestal. Jesus still loves her even though she mocks him - she s only human afterall. P. S. Jesus is in the business of changing people so don t believe the lyrics born this way either - being g**, bi or transgendered is a lifestyle choice. Sorry guys but it s true. Xx.

Although this is one of my favorite songs on the album, it scares me because I am hoping that it is not sacreligious. Personally, I struggle with the meaning of this song because it's lyrical content is quite vulgar, but I expect that from Lady Gaga. To me, this song is about a person who's heart has been squished and stabbed many times, but even through the pain the person has learned to dance and rejoice, "that which is life" and forgive those who have hurt him/her. Also, after a bad relationship there may be "blood" on your hands, but you should wash it off and find new love because as the French lyrics translate to English, "You don't want to die alone." I guess to argue for Gaga's choice of lyrics, It is actually teaching a biblical virtue of forgiving others that treat you wrongly, which ultimately takes away the power the enemy has over you if you don't forgive them.
