I personally think is about time when they go out on tour and the girl friend or wife has to stay behind and cant go with them
That was particullary very common on those days. I didnt try to find a hide meanning, just read the lyrics and recall those long tour from city to City to present journey.

The person in this song is still holding on to his most important love. She is the one he hears and is haunted by, the one that will never fade. Due to circumstances that are not revealed in the song, the couple parted and he hints that it is because he can not give her what she needs. They both would rather part on good terms than take a chance that broken hearts could always mend. "Send her my love" is a emotional cry that hopes that somehow she feels the same. Memories of the love remain good and intact.

Steve perry is in love with this woman so much that he can't forget her. He is explaining to his friend who still sees her often, how much he loves and misses her. No matter where he is in the world, he carries with him the memories of her and the love they shared. The memories were good and bad, but he will always hold on to them. He wants his friend to send her his love the next time he sees her. It will never fade.

An underrated ballad in my opinion, and should of charted higher than it did. The way Steve's emotions come through in this song are hauntingly brilliant. Whilst Faithfully deals with being in love with someone whilst being on the road, this deals with the breakup of a relationship due to the same circumstances.
In the song, he recalls the 'sad cafe' where the breakup most likely happened. He then goes on to recount the 'same hotel' and 'the same old room' where he spent his nights whilst on tour. After which he says that she needed so much more than he could give, meaning that he couldn't see her as often as he would like. The last chorus is where I think his emotion really shines through. He obviously still thinks about this girl and still cares very deeply about her, as he calls out her name in his sleep, and can still see reflections of her face.
