My dad sings it best. Me and my twin sisters birthday is in September and as a child I always thought he was singing about us. Haha. Also when ever I got teary eyed or sentimental over anything I'd say I'm
just a weeping willow. Now that I'm older with five children of my own I realize it's about the seasons of our lives and the beauty of each of those seasons. Thanks dad for sharing your beautiful singing voice to us as children so that we can find our own voices and sing in harmony with our Father in Heaven. As we all will end up there together in a glorious reunion.

This song was popular in the mid 60’s when I was in collage and entering the one great love of my life. We listened to it numerous times and the final verse always saddened me with its truth and it’s sadness. I wanted children in my future and knew I could never be complete without them. I knew that would never change. He, on the other hand was resolute in remaining childless. I knew I could never change him. That was 65 years ago. We kept in touch for a while, then his military service, marriage, carrier, and sporting interest and my marriage, carrier and long awaited and cherished three children became priorities. We connected by phone several years ago, and again last night, prompting me to the lyrics of the song today. They once again resonated within a deep place in my soul. “Without a hurt the heart is hollow” reminds me again that the pain of a lost love is a part of who I am today and no doubt, a source of the strength that has seen me through much hurt, grief and loss. We are both now in the deep December of our lives, but no matter how long between calls, we easily reconnect and talk on a bit more than simply a casual level. At times there is still the “I wonder what if . . “. These thoughts bring not sadness or regret, but the smile that accompanies pleasant memories.
