Green Day – Wake Me Up When September Ends lyrics
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last

Wake me up when September ends

Like my
fathers come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends

Here comes
the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are

As my memory rests
But never forget what I lost
Wake me up when
September ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last

Wake me up when September ends

Ring out the bells again
Like we did when Spring began

Wake me up when September ends

Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are

As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends

Like my fathers come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when
September ends
Wake me up when September ends

Ok, so this song used to haunt me when I was a kid. Because of how well it was written, I understood it. This is an amazing song if you want to remember someone you lost or to help someone else cope for a loss. This song is down to earth and honest, it will help someone understand how growing up is not just for jokes and giggles, it will have its heart breaks and haunting moments. Loss will take its toll, depression will hurt you and break you down one day or another, but if you survive it all the way through. It shows how strong you (girl or guy) really are, just like you loved ones had to, you will die one day to, so you need to live you life as best you can now and not let these pains restrict you in the process, rather than hate life and when it's your time you beg for more time. Billie Joe lost his father (in September) he says at the beginning "like my fathers come to pass, 7 years have gone so fast" then at the end "20 years have gone so fast" he didn't let this pain drag him down for his entire life, if he would have done that his life would have felt as if time was at a crawl, he lived it right, and he is amazed at how fast time goes by when you live it right. That's the moral of the song, live your life as best as you can, don't lat anything destroy you or beat you down, fight the pain, use it, and live an amazing life, it's there for the taking. So take it.

In this melancholy ballad, Armstrong revisits his painful childhood and thinks about the day he lost his innocence when his father died. Like many faced with such a traumatic event, he never truly recovered, and he can't believe that twenty years have passed since that September day. As Armstrong associates pain with the month September, he would rather not deal with anything related to the month, prompting him to sing, As my memory rests/but never forgets what I lost/Wake me up when September ends.

This song really makes me cry for a reason. I had a freind that left me at September. Right after summer. It really left me shattered. I couldn't help crying to this song when I first heard it. She was my really good friend, and we used to play with eachother. I just hope she can come back. Problem is, I'm Asian, and she's American. So it creates some racial problems. :(

Billie's dad died when he was just a kid. That's when he wrote the song, and he picked it up and recorded it for the american idiot album.
Its not only about him losing his dad, its about losing someone you love. In the video, its about this really young couple, and the girlfriend freaks out when the boyfriend signs up for the army. You never find out if the get to see eachother again. That's left for thought.
Its amazing how billie joe can write a song as a sad little kid and have that song find its way into the hearts of so many people so many years later.

This song is Green Day's most emotional song because of the military tribute throughout the video. The lyrics are really haunting because Billie Joe talks all about his Dad who died when he was 10. The video itself is really emotional. Thanks to the acting by Evan Rachel Wood and Anton Yelchin (the couple throughout the video). Another message that is repeated through the video is Evan Rachel Wood's quote, " Don;t ever leave me." This is because Yelchin is going off to war and Wood doesn't want him to die. Really emotional story and video.

This song is all about how the lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong's father died, and how much he misses him. I think this song has a really great meaning to it, and I love how Billie isn't afraid to write a great and deep song. Everytime I listen to this song, I get really emotional because I just understand it that much.
I think that Billie wrote this song as a tribute to his father, who did die from cancer. When my grandfather died, I thought of this song for my dad. It could really work for any father passing away. This song has a really important meaning, and I really love it.

501 Airborne made the same comments I would have. This song was popular when my wife and I were expecting twins Austin and Olivia. They did not survive delivery. Every time I hear the song it kills me but also makes me reflect on them and my life. The song and this event made me a better person.

I never know that his dad die on September. I bet this life was not fun to just have a mother not a dad! in your life i feel bad for him but is this why he has this song because of his dad or is it just about the war that say wake me up when September ends! And why did he not tell his girlfriend that he was going to be in the war! and I think i know why she so sad because she think that she is going to lost him in the war but in the video did he get shut in the lag!
