(just looked up and saw the "written for a solider" post, if true on the goo dolls reason behind the song, that's pretty cool, and good on your bro and his wife whoever you are).
My husband of forever-years-ago and I used-to-be-teenage parents and our 19yr old son and his girlfriend just moved away from home together. Our oldest just turned 21 and is in california. I have not seen this video yet, I read the lyrics like a mom to her son (all of 'em really but that's muh'boy and always on my mind), he's a used-to-be "troubled teen" - except that I really do hate that term.
He had problems we all do, we're bi-polar and anxiety-ridden and depressed and alcoholic and schizos and pill-dependant and former coke and/or meth heads and abuse survivors, and that's just in my family, immediate, heck it's me and my son cover those and then some.
But we're not broken and our family though miles apart it is nowadays will always be there for eachother, no matter how crazy we were or are, it's our crazy and we know our crazy and we handle it just fine. He's even come to have faith in god and I found mine again too and our angels light our way now. Our son doesn't even need his psych pills anymore (something my brother's working on and it's tough to get off meds once yer on 'em, like comin off meth) and has I truly believe found his soul mate early in his life like his dad and I were lucky to do.

Its was written when a guy went to war and got stuck in a german hospital. He thought his wife wouldn't want him to come home, because he was scarred and badly hurt. So his wife asked the goo dolls to write this song for him so he would come home.
What this song means to me:.
On may 27th, 2011. My brother was in a horrible car accident. He was in icu for 7 weeks and in rehab for several more weeks. His fiancee was by his side every second of every day. She is now his devoted wife. (married october 29th 2011. Their wedding had to be postponed because of his injuries) the song means so much to me because I would text my brother and say "i want you to come home. " that is why this song is so important to me.
