Deniece Williams – Free lyrics
Whispering in his ear
My magic potion to love
Telling him, I'm sincere
And that there's nothin' too good for us

And I've just got to be me, me, me

Whispering in his ear
My magic potion to love
Telling him, I'm sincere
And that there's nothin' too good for us

But I want to be free, free, free
And I've just got to be me yeah, me, me

Teasing hands on his mind
Give our nights such mistery
Happiness all the time
Oh and how that man pleases me

But I want to be free, free, free
And I've just got to be me, me, me

(Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba)
I've just got to be me
(Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba)

Feelin' you close to me
Makes all my senses smile
Let's not waste ecstasy
'Cause I'll only be here for a while

I've gotta be free, free, free, ohh
And I've just got to be me yeah, yeah, me, me

Free, free, free to be me
(I've just gotta be me)
And I just wanna, I just wanna be me

(I've just gotta be me)
I've just gotto be me, me

Ohh free
(I've just gotta be me)
I sware to my, I've gotto be me

If I had to sum up this song in one phrase, it would be "Love her, but leave her wild." Basically, she is free-spirited; independent; needs a lot of room to be herself, even though she can't deny that she loves this man. She wants both; the freedom to be who she is, and to have him accept her as she is. Listen...I am sis. Lol.

This song came out in the '70s, post the women's liberation movement of the 1960s. By the 1970s many women had realized that they had the same options as men on all levels of our lives. We also became more truthful with ourselves about what we really wanted out of lives. In the song, the woman tells the man what he wants to hear to get him to fall in-love with her, they make beautiful love, and then she tells him that she doesn't want to be tied down. Oh, yeah, baby, we rode the wave of this song to the HILT!

Love this song. In a relationship there will always be a conflict between ideas and decisions, but it doesn't have to change your state of mind, or how you want to live your life. Some sacrifices should be made, but shouldn't be too hard or even far from reach if you are in the wright relationship. Let your partner be themselves, cause that's who you fell for when you met, and expect the same in return. Friends first, lovers for life. Your soul mate is out there. I found mine. ;)
