Crystal Gayle – You Never Gave Up On Me lyrics

I haven't listened to much secular music in a long time, but I do like some of it. I have heard Crystal Gayle a lot. But the first time I heard "You Never Gave Up On Me" was a couple of weeks ago and it was just exactly what I wanted to say to my wife but didn't know what words to say. May 1972, I met Carolyn, She was it for me. At that time I was involved with a gang here in Dalton, ga. We dated for 3 years and most of it we argued I was so jealous of her I couldn't stand it. I was always accusing her of looking at some boy or something stupid like that. I always thought that her sisters or friends was trying to find someone else for her. I would go to her parents house and cause trouble because they wouldn't let me see her. We made it through the 3 years of this, we got married in June 1975. All was good for about a year or so and I started hanging out more with my friends and spending less time with her. I would stay high on drugs all the time. I would take off for several days and she wouldn't know where I was or even if I was dead or alive. I wouldn't work, I always said that it was a sin to work. I started selling drugs and was in and out of jail all the time. We separated 3 different times over a period of 7 years but I would promise her everything be change, I would straighten up my act and get a job. She would take me back and no sooner done I would go right back doing the same things over again. I would come in and start a fight with her just to leave. To me the gang I hung out with was more family to me than my real family. I would go out and get younger kids to start smoking pot so they would buy it from me. I would use them to sell it a schools for me also. Carolyn really went through a lot, but through it all she stayed true. I didn't realize the love she had for me. This song " You never gave up on me " really explanes how no matter how much hurt and wrong I done to her, the love she had for me helped her to hold on. I tell people every where that she could leave me today for the way I treated her and I couldn't blame her at all. I treated her worse than a dog. At least this has a good ending, I was arrested August 1981 for 2 felony drug charges and was facing 20 years in prison. On August 30, 1981, Mr. Mccarty came by my cell and told me that God could change my whole life. I accepted Jesus as my personal savior that day and nothing has been the same. I ended up only having to do 13 months. During that time Carolyn never missed a visiting day. After I got out we started going to church, I am a deacon and Carolyn teaches a class in our church. We have been members of Whitfield Baptist Church for 32 years now. Thank You Crystal.
