Cold Chisel – Breakfast At Sweethearts lyrics
Campbell lane,
And thru' the window curtain rain,
Long night gone, yellow day,
The speed shivers melts away.
Six o'clock I'm going down,
The coffee's hot and the toast is brown,
Hey! Street-sweeper, clear my way,
Sweethearts' breakfast the best in town.
Woh o-o-oh, Breakfast at Sweethearts.
Woh o-o-oh, Breakfast at Sweethearts.
Hey! Anne-Maria,
It's always good to see her,
She don't smile a flirt,
She just wears that mini-skirt,
Drunks come in
A paper bag Brandivino,
Dreams fly away
As she pulls another capucino.
At Six o'clock I'm going down,
The coffee's hot and the toast is brown,
Hey! Street-sweeper, clear my way,
Sweethearts' breakfast the best in town.
Six o'clock I'm going down,
The coffee's hot and the toast is brown,
Hey! Street-sweeper, clear my way,
Sweethearts' breakfast the best in town.
Breakfast at Sweethearts, ye-ah ye-e ye-e yeah.

The truth is that when Chisel were doing the pub circuit in Sydney in the mid to late 79's they used to go to Sweethearts cafe at kings Cross for breakfast after the gigs. Maria is the lady who worked night shift. I know that because she was my mother!

    Breakfast at sweethearts.
Man's greatest achievement? Perhaps not, but can you afford not to read on when I am about to tell you about breakfast at sweethearts? Many an afternoon has been enjoyed by a family, bonding over the discussion of breakfast at sweethearts. Though breakfast at sweethearts is a favourite topic of discussion amongst monarchs, presidents and dictators, it is important to remember that 'what goes up must come down. ' it still has the power to shock global commercial enterprises, many of whom fail to comprehend the full scope of breakfast at sweethearts. At the heart of the subject are a number of key factors. I plan to examine each of these factors in detail and asses their importance.
    Social factors.
As reflected in classical mythology society is complicated. When the tygers of pan tang sang 'it's lonely at the top. Everybody's trying to do you in' [1] , they saw clearly into the human heart. Difference among people, race, culture and society is essential on the survival of our world, however breakfast at sweethearts bravely illustrates what we are most afraid of, what we all know deep down in our hearts.
Status, security, fame - breakfast at sweethearts, all revolve around this 'golden fleece'. Clearly it promotes higher individualism and obeyence of instinct. As soon as a child meets breakfast at sweethearts they are changed.
    Economic factors.
The dictionary defines economics as 'the social science concerned with the production, distribution, exchange, and consumption of goods and services'. We shall examine the maiden-tuesday-lending model, as is standard in this case.
    Average.
    Wage.
    Breakfast at sweethearts.
There is no longer a need to argue the importance of breakfast at sweethearts, it is clear to see that the results speak for themselves. The question which surfaces now is, how? Even a child could work out that the average wage looms over breakfast at sweethearts this cannot be a coincidence. Perhaps to coin a phrase breakfast at sweetheartseconomics will be the buzz word of the century.
    Political factors.
Much of the writings of historians display the conquests of the most powerful nations over less powerful ones. Contrasting the numerous political activists campaigning for the interests of breakfast at sweethearts can be like looking at breakfast at sweetheartsism and post-breakfast at sweetheartsism.
It is always enlightening to consider the words of the famous political kuuipo shandy 'people in glass houses shouldn't through parties. ' [2] considered by many to be one of the 'founding fathers' of breakfast at sweethearts, his words cannot be over-looked. If our political system can be seen as a cake, then breakfast at sweethearts makes a good case for being the icing.
I hope, for our sake that breakfast at sweethearts will endure.
    Conclusion.
To conclude breakfast at sweethearts is both a need and a want. It enriches, puts out 'fires', and is a joy to behold.
Let's finish with a thought from star ozzy travolta: 'it's been nice educating you. ' [3].
[1] tygers of pang tang - the cage - 1982 mcr records.
[2] shandy - ice cold - 1994 pitter patter publishing.
[3] your breakfast at sweethearts - issue 43 - never ever publishing.

That's wrong. Jimmy Barnes didn't even write the song and Don Walker (the writer) didn't own the cafe, he lived close by. The cafe also doesn't exist anymore. It was demolished and is now McDonalds.

Maybe a Maccas worker (who may or may not have looked like Jimmy Barnes) winked at you when you were getting coffee and your imagination got a bit carried away? That's the only potentially true scenario.

This is a song about a restaurant that jimmy barnes used to own on victoria road in sydney that was called sweethearts. Jimmy barnes used to work there in the kitchen making meals for people. One time I went there and ordered some hot coffee and brown toast and jimmy winked at me knowing that I understood the true meaning of the song.
A beautiful song with a lot of emotion.
