So the songs starts of with john having some difficulties with love “its clearly not enough”. Further finding this individual is a wreck sleeping all day but some how simultaneously driving in LA. These two statements can only reconcile with each other only if the individual is in a dream. Now since we established the setting is a dream we can analyze more intricate details. John is in denial posturing as if love is important (each time you fall in love) but then telling himself/herself “you never know its worth”. Now we see a deeper picture. This story is a battle of drives between solitude and companionship. John is lost because he is confused to what drive is right and which one he should pursue, since the drives are both coming from him. This causes him to be illogical and give birth to abrupt behaviour like losing all his money “lost all ur money to her”. After we get the line “how come u never give in” meaning the companionship drive is the persona speaking about his behaviour to him and remember this is happening in a dream. So what i get from thats is that the companionship drive is trying to persuade him/her to fall in love seriously. But for the drive to communicate to john he must be in a dream. But will john listen to the drive and seek companionship. We will never know.
