Christmas Carols – We Three Kings lyrics
We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.

O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.

Born a king on Bethlehem's plain,
Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign
.

O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.

Frankincense to offer have I.
Incense owns a Deity nigh.
Prayer and praising all men raising,
Worship Him, God on high.

O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.

Myrrh is mine: it's bitter perfume
Breaths a life of gathering gloom.
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying,
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.

Glorious now behold Him arise,
King and God and Sacrifice.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Sounds through the earth and skies.

O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light

We three kings is a song meant to explain the meaning of the gifts of the wisemen. They brought precious gifts to the young child Jesus to honor him. The gold shows his value and importance: that he is king. The frankincense was an offering of worship, given to show his deity: that he is god. The myrrh was a valuable spice used in embalming, signifying the reason he came was to die for the sins of mankind: he is the perfect sacrifice.

Animaniacs get me singing their version.
Warners: "We three shepards traveling far,oh how we wish that we had a car. We cant sleep cause with the sheep following yonder star. Ohhh, star of wonder, star of light, star of royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding. Guide us to thy perfect light."

They sing it in "Little Drummer Warners" There are 3 kings that sing this version too in the episode.
I love Animaniacs and they brought me here to see the original words. I don't know the meaning of this but I do really like the song and I'm glad I can see the original one. I'm 15 and my name is Rita. This one of my favorites cause Animaniacs sing it. I sing with Animaniacs when they sing. I' glad to see this and I hope I can learn this version. I really like to listen to Animaniacs sing it. I sing with them on my dvd.
Please don't hate on my thought of this. I love Animaniacs and I really like this song. The song is great! My favorite part is "star of wonder, star of light."
    Goodnight, Everybody.
    -Rita.

Actually, Christianity is not based on so called "pagan sun worship". We do not believe that Jesus is the sun, we do not believe that the wise men were stars, and I would like to hear where you got this information from. Maybe ask a Christian about Christianity, rather than asking someone who hasn't touched a Bible in their life. Goodnight, pagans.

Sorry, not pagans, atheists. Oh, and good job to those of you who translated it correctly, or just told us why you liked it! However, everyone has their own opinions, and although they may be wrong in my eyes, you are entitled to your opinions.

    My translation:
This song tells the story of the wise men, traversing very large distances to find Jesus. It speaks of the star God placed in the sky to guide them, it tells of the three gifts that were given to him, and it

    Roman Historian Josephus
As Jesus (the real, historical person referred to by the Roman Historian Josephus, and the one on whom Christianity is actually based) was born around April (when the shepherds actually took the flocks out into the fields at night-the weather in winter was too dangerous to men and sheep) this makes any reference selected by modern astronomers to winter star alignments absolutely irrelevant. (And the star systems now aren't exactly where they were 2000 years ago--stars move)
The date on which we celebrate Christmas was chosen a couple of centuries after the actual event, and based on politics and convenience. The Actual event itself, referred to in the contemporaneous gospels, was in Spring or Summer, because no shepherd in his right mind would be out in the freezing nights of winter.
Of course, the song which we are analyzing was written relatively recently, by people of the Christian faith, and refers to the passages in the gospels (written within living memory of the event) which was closely followed by Herod's Massacre of the Holy Innocents.

If you click on myrrh the first explanation says, "it is what the third wise man brought." The problem with this song and this explanation is that the Bible never specifies how many wise men there were. Matthew 2:1 "...there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem".

Sorry to burst your atheistic bubble, but Christianity was not based on "pagan sun worship". It is it's own religion, started by a real man named Jesus in about 40 A.D. It is based off of Judiasm, a much older religion. Try asking a Christian about it rather than the Internet, or somebody who has never touched a Bible in their life. We believe that Jesus was a real person (there is historical evidence backing this). The wise men were real people too, not stars. How about you "do your research" and actually ask a Christian scholar about it, rather than some atheist who would never accept it, no matter how much proof. Also, great job to those people out there who looked at it from a biblical perspective, or just told us why they like this song! If you want to, you could even become a Christian yourself and find out the very deep meaning of this lovely song. Don't listen to some dumb atheist, sorry, but they're going to (insert where they're going here) when they die. Best of luck!

The 'star of wonder' is sirius, which is the brightest start in the eastern sky. The three kings are the three stars in the constellation of orion which make up orion's belt, which, if you draw a line thru them and thru sirius, point directly to the place on the horizon where the sun rises on dec 25th, exactly 3 days after the winter solstice on dec 21st. 'born a king on bethlehems plain refers to the location on the horizon where the sun rises on christmas morning. Jesus is actually a mythical representation of the sun, the 'light of the world'. Do your research and you will find that christianity is based on pagan sun worship which precedes christianity by 1000's of years. It's quite a beautiful mythology, along with many other religions which also have their roots in sun worship.
