Birdy – I'll Never Forget You lyrics
86 Charlie came over
He asked me for a favour
Asked me a question
Asked me to make an exception

86 Charlie he came back
Said he'd been thinking it over
Says he's had a change of heart
He thinks he's made a grave mistake

But I, I'll never forget you
I'll never forget you
You make things so easy
I'll never forget you

86 Charlie he came back, he came back
Sat down at the table and for the last time
Said he's finally made up his mind
He wonders if it's not too late
It's not too late, because

I'll never forget you
I'll never forget you
You make me so angry
I'll never forget you

I think this song relates to something very general. It's about someone who oboviously had some kind of relationship with "86 charlie", probably romantic. Then 86 charlie left from some reason. This song tells about how 86 charlie had a "change of heart" and came back, but I think it's also a flashback to what happened before, the writer is still angry at 86 charlie for what s/he did in the first time, he still didn't forget what happened there, and can't just forgive her/him. I think every one of us has the 86 charlie, that "made things so easy" yet "made me so angry", andd changed us forever.

Well let me try to break this apart. Just as the other person said below, "86' is old american slang for throwing out, out of use, basically just finished. " I think that charlie asked her, birdy, something that offended her or made her mad, for example, her virginity, so she got pissed, and they probably got into a fight, that ended it. Then he came back, asking for forgiveness, telling her he was so sorry, he made a mistake. But she can never forgive him, she can't ever forget him. He hurt her so bad.

I think when birdy refers to 86 charlie, its is to do with the police codes, 86 is code for a medical hazard and charlie is c in the alphabet but also obviously a mans name, therefore perhaps charlie has died, and she is remembering him and he has come back as a ghost "86 charlie he came back, he came back. Sat down at the table and for the last time" although maybe this is just looking into things too much. Such a beautiful song.

The incredibly beautiful song is about a man cheating on his wife with her. In the beginning of their affair, he had asked if she can accept he is married. Then he struggles with carrying on a secret affair and comes back to say he has made a choice and it’s his wife, thus leaving this girl. He says to her he will never forget her as she made him happy and made things easy and enjoyable for him. Time passes and he comes back again, this time regretful that that he had broken off the affair and again asking a question, this time if he can make it right and they get back together. Saying he will leave his wife for her by Asking if it’s not too late. Her reply, which is the first time in the song we have actually heard her side of things, is no. She is too angry with him for his playing with her emotions and she ends the affair. 86 Charlie...she took someone with the name beginning with C off the table.

I think this beautiful song is about a girl who was very much in love with 86 charlie but he was torn between her and another girl, the relationship is complicated because he can never quite decide. One day the first girl (birdy) realizes how much this is hurting her and tries to let go but 86 charlie comes back and tries to tell her that he chose her but she can't be with him after he hurt her like he did. She will never forget him though. She treasures their time together but she can't forgive him even after he chose to be with her.

'86' is old american slang for throwing out, out of use, basically just finished. I think charlie is an ex of hers that has come back because he 'thinks he's made a grave mistake' and probably wants her back. But she'll never forget him, he made things so easy. 'sat down at the table, and for the last time' I think means that she's made up her mind; yes, he made things so easy, but he also made her so angry. She'll never forget him though. Such a beautiful song.

I think a few of the earlier posters are right on '86' mean 'throwing out'. I think Charlie dumped her, probably for another girl (he couldnt choose between 2 girls and chose the other one instead of the singer) but it didnt work out for him, and he tried to come back. She had moved on a little but was still angry and hurt at being "thrown away" for someone else. The 3 verses that begin "86 Charlie" are him begging her to take him back, but she is pretty resolved not to and has already decided to let him go.

I think '86' refers to Charlie's age - I.e, he was born in 1986; That was my first thought because it sounds similar to social networking where someone might have their year of birth at the start or end of their name. If that's the case, then it seems she's referring to him in a way that isn't very personal - or maybe it was indeed someone that she met online.

It's about a guys who keeps changing his mind as to whether or not he will be with her.
Verse 1 he asks her out.
Verse 2 he comes back and said tells her hes changed his mind. Shes hurt.
Verse 3 he comes back for the final time to see if he can have a second chance. I don't think she took him back.

    Beautiful song.

After hearing this song so many times because it's one of my favourites I think it's about a boy or girl, but let's just say boy so pronouns are easier, who likes the narrator and asked to be with them but he must've asked in a casual roundabout way given the line "asked me for a favour" maybe even along the lines "do you fancy going out with me". This kinda shows Charlie is immature or young. Especially given the next verse when he changes his mind so swift and decides he's made a mistake. The fact it says "made it so easy" again shows how simple and silly he is. The last verse he finally made up his indecisive mind but by then it's too late and the writer was smart enough to leave it since it says "for the last time". As for the 86 bit I think that's either the year it happened, 1986 or the 86+ Charlie's who are this naïve and careless. The song is so subtle yet powerful I love it so much!
