Bill Withers – Lean On Me lyrics
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain

We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand (Chorus)
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Second Verse
(Chorus)

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

(Chorus)
Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me (call me)
Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me (if you ever need a friend)
Call me (call me)
Call me
Call me (if you need A friend)

This was my mom's song she died June 6th of 2013 and I mis her alot. But she lived by this song and I will always cry when it comes on. She was always there for me and fro her friends. She taught me and my friends to lean on each other when times got tough well they are tough for me now but I have a really good support structure. This song really taught me a lot about the importance of friends and family. I hope you all take it this way too. Rip mom.

"lean on me" is a song written and released by bill withers in 1972. It was his first and only number one on both the soul singles and the billboard hot 100. [1] it is ranked number 205 on the rolling stone's 500 greatest songs of all time. [2] numerous cover versions have been recorded, and it is one of only nine songs to have scored no. 1 with versions recorded by two different artists. [3] withers' childhood in the coal mining town of slab fork, west virginia[4] was the inspiration for "lean on me", which he wrote after he had moved to los angeles and found himself missing the strong community ethic of his hometown. He lived in a decrepit house in the poor section of town. Withers recalled to songfacts the original inspiration for the song; "i bought a little piano and i was sitting there just running my fingers up and down the piano. In the course of doing the music, that phrase crossed my mind, so then you go back and say, 'ok, i like the way that phrase, lean on me, sounds with this song. '" [5]
several members of the watts 103rd street rhythm band were used for the recording session in 1972.

It's all about getting through hard times together, something that we (being humans) have never been all too good at. It's a song about friendship, sticking together, helping each other out, but also being able to admit when you need help, because no-one can help if they don't know you need any help. If nothing else, it's a good and fun song to sing with friends because it's really just light hearted and just has that "just kicking back and hanging out with friends" feeling.

Recently I wanted to kill myself, cuz sometimes I just feel so lonely in the world. And being alone is the worse feeling there is. Then I saw in my facebook message that my friend shared a link that contained this song. Even though there was no words with the link, I was sure that my friends could carry me out of my low point in life. Really, having people you can lean on feels great. Now I feel absolutely invincible. Thanks brandon! Though you may not know it, but it is your song that gave me the courage to live until today: D

That people should be kinder to each other all over the world. To bank good karma, you have to put forth good karma. People either forget this or never knew. Let other cars go in front of you, open doors for others, be charitable at Christmas and all year long - help your community by giving to the County Food Bank. Lean on Me and when I need to, I'll lean on you.

I love my little sister because even though she isn't my sister by blood she is always there when I cry get mad and etc. And I dedicated this ong to her because what she does for me I can do the same for her. I even dedicated another song. I knew that we wern't sisters by birth but we both knew that. Fate brought us together to be sisters by heart and I'm gad I found her.

I thought that perhaps there were layers of meaning, but I don’t know. Does Bill Withers prefer his song interpreted in a specific way or in many ways? It seemed to be about someone (perhaps an actual brother, perhaps a brother in the eyes of god) helping another who was in a lot of pain and explaining that it is ok to accept help and that he knows you would do the same for him. Wouldn’t you? :)
I used to think he said, “...if I have faith, you need to borrow” and I thought it was a deep good religious message. For sometimes people question their faith during hard times. I am still wondering if that is actually what he said. Is there a way to find out for certain, or a way to ask Bill Withers maybe? Maybe it doesn’t matter whether he said things or faith. The song can still be interpreted the same (or many other ways) with either word (faith can be considered a thing).
I think this is an awesome song, and I like all the lyrics and the whole tune, too (especially the tune in the first three verses). I believe that there is a great message in this song. :)

The song is really heart touching. In tough times is when you know who is there for you to lean on and who was there to laugh at you. We need friends to lean on. We need families to be tied together in good times as well in hard times. Life gives back what you invest in it. Love covers all. 1corinthians talk and speak on love deeds. Stay blessed.

Having such a strong bond with someone that you're willing to do what it takes to bring them out of the depths of hell and always be there for them no matter what and knowing that you can count on them to do the same for you. A friend is one who knows the song in your heart and reminds you of the lyrics when you've forgotten them. I love this song. Eileen.

My meaning of this song is always being there for someone. Lend a helping hand to someone less fortunate than you. Some nice deed that you give someone, could change their whole outlook on life, and the way they live it. Never look past a moment to help someone in need, whether its your friend trying to move some boxes, or someone whos car broke down on the highway. Everyone "[needs] someone to lean on"

Yes, at a point in our life time, we need someone to lean on. It is only when we realize the fact in this song, that we don't have it all, and that must lean on someone someday, then our world would have changed for good. No racial discrimination, no black, no world. And we see ourselves as one in spite of tribe and tongue. I am inspired by this piece of song. By enyinnaya emmanuel appolos, nigeria. Note: I reported because I didn't write my name in my first post.

A true friend is someone who walks in when the others walk out. This song implies that a true friend never leaves you no matter what. He/she has a hand to take you up, shoulder to cry on and somebody to be with. A true companion all throughout your life.
That's why I want to share this to all my friends who have gone through trials and obstacles with me,. Especial to my bestfriend. Bes_koh. Love lots.

The song support and motivates by saying there is always tomorrow, life changes. If you are not strong and you need somebody next to you, you always can lean on him. That somebody will help to carry on, and will be a friend or a brother, when you need a hand. I believe that is words from god, he is always with us we have to remember this, remember that we are never alone.

Life really hits you with a hammer some days, over and over until you just want to curl up and cry. I've had those days, and they hurt like crazy, but with a single kind word by a good friend, it doesn't hurt so bad anymore. With a bunch of friends who are there for you, even if you don't talk, just cry, pretty soon, you won't want to cry anymore. It may still hurt, I do sometimes, but it gets better with time, and love. Remember that. It gets better.

"lean on me" is every second of every moment that I am grateful for being in my life. From day 1 literally I was in a battle with something out of my control. Even with a consistent cycle of torment taking place in my life from losing both parents, to adoption, to more severe surgeries than years in the past 6, to just going in for new treatment for a new disorder and to dealing with almost dying every time I have a seizure due to my epilepsy that I only was diagnosed with at 21. I am 26 now and addicted to the pain medication I am prescribed for the legitimate pain and have felt like I've been trapped I a prison in my own house for years. But that is not true, I was adopted by my grand parents who raised me to be loving and kind and to forgive, I volunteer with any human rights group and lean on me is my thanks for every second chance I was given. By god, by my friends, and by my condition to be blessed with always having someone there for me to lean on. Emotionally, spiritually, forgivingly and physically when those moments were and are jut to impossible to stand up on my own two feet. Thank you. Mom (biologic grandma), dad (biologic grandpa), friends-all of you. For being there after the surgeries or a seizure and for giving me another chance every time I broke out of emotion and control and you all forgave me and welcome me back to lean on again. And thanks to being blessed with unconditional faith in never being able to be beaten and that I love her o much-the last person I must thank for letting me lean on when I just can't hold up. My future wife, beautiful and loving, I am here waiting for you and I feel you will be here very soon to lean on.
Everybody-we are all blessed and because of our humanity we will always be able to lean on and be that someone to standup for someone else. Accept it all-that which is who we are and lean on me.

This songs means alot to me. There was a time in my life where both my sisters and father had a terminal disease (one had cancer, the two sisters had some kind of heart deformity). Thy all died within a one month time span, and at the time I was having thoughts of suicide. However this song reminded me that not all was lost and I still had m mom to lean on. We helped each other through the tough time, and we always had each other to lean on.

This song made me a better person I used to doubt myself a lot and after listening to this song is made me see that if you don't go to someone for help you will never get that help you need and now my I have people in my corner when I need them and I wish one of my friends came to me. I would have been able to help but they gave up and just decided to cut their life short and it hurts me to know that they are gone but I have to keep pushing myself because as Bill Withers said "We know that there is always tomorrow." I love you Sidney and you will always be in my heart. R.I.P.

Do unto others as you would have done unto you. I believe we are our brothers keeper. We need to watch out for one another, pump each other up, and stay true to the fact that we're all just one step away from being without. Life is difficult and short enough to not be able to lend our hand to the hurting. Jesus one tme told his disciples that the poor will always be with us. Well, hearing mitt romney (presidential hopeful) say that he's not concerned for the poor - whether he said this in a manner of what he says to not condecending, I think this is probable one reason we will always have the poor. Not everyone is with a chance, or are blessed & fortunate to be able to grow and progress in life as we all would rather do. But if we could all lend a hand to one another: be a 'show the way' kind of brother to do so, then, perhaps we wouldn't need to "always' have the poor with us.
