When I first heard this I thought it was about the rev's passing, but he was alive when it was written. I think it has to do with the pain we all feel when we lose someone we love. I think that the slight adjustment to the chorus at the end, the change to "we've all been victims of a crime" is to aknowledge that we all can sympathize with losing a loved one because it's something we've all experienced.

I know the few men who wrote this had put meaning into it, but this song gives me its own meaning.
Matt is telling me everything's gonna be alright because we all go through this. Good things last for so little time, and at the same time, he's telling me to get over it.
The song also has a philosophical aspect to it. It's just something about this song that gets to me.

This song is definitely about what it was like for the members of avenged sevenfold after the rev's death. Waking up every morning and knowing that he's not there. This song is mainly about M. Shadows feelings and emotions towards the death of their best friend jimmy because M. Shadows wrote this song as a way of expressing his sadness and pain into writing a beautiful song called victim. Every fan of avenged sevenfold will miss the rev as much as his friends, band members and family. Jimmy we all love you, rest in peace my friend.

The song is most likely in reference to the late "rev"; however, my interpretation is that the "crime" is god (or whomever) taking another person and, in this particular case, far too soon. The reference "don't need your salvation, save it for another time" suggests the anger with this referred higher power and how when you lose someone dear to your heart, the last thing you wanna talk about is the very person who took your dearly beloved away.

This song hits me, I feel a sudden feeling of sadness. How the rythm of the song is being played and how matt shadows sings it. I believe the songs about jimmy sullivan "the rev" whom past away & hes singing of the loss of the former drummer. Whos been a "victim of a crime" meaning jimmy's sickness, & how he was a victim. & how hard it is for them to get by. I love this song!
