    Jake has been through a lot of stuff and it literally took him giving his full heart out to god before he realized what it actually meant. There are plenty of christians who it one point or another have cut themselves in their lives but have found strength through him like jake did. Don't take it that just because part of it is about cutting that the whole song is about that.

    Not all of their songs have a christian meaning behind them. Listen to up against the ropes. Just because the band members are christian doesn't make their genre christian metalcore. If that were the case many other bands would be also if their members were as vocal about it as abr is. Also, part of the song is in fact about cutting. They have a full concert recorded on YouTube and jake (the vocalist) points to his arm when he says "its not the first time and they're getting deeper"

    Look, "scars" in line three that are "getting deeper" are most likely on the narrator's wrists, because his advice for covering up these scars is to "roll down those sleeves," because whatever shows on his forearms reveals how he's "coped" with his life falling apart. Sure, these could be needle tracks, but their "getting deeper" suggest a cutting motion, in my opinion. I don't personally see how this about drug addiction--all of the evidence suggests this song is about suicide.

    As for everyone arguing about "religion." Well, as a 21 year old young man who has done it all, cutting, drugs, s**, fights. A kid that grew up in a broken home, struggling with identity crises, popularity all the stuff that consumes so many. Bad break-ups, addictions that lose friends and family, depression so bad all you want to do is sleep. When nobody wants to hear about your problems anymore you go inside yourself and put on a fake smile. Thankfully there is someone who sees inside me and I live and breathe his presence on a daily basis. You can't see him, because you're not looking close enough. Can you see the wind? No, however you see the effects of wind as it blows. It's the same with God. You may not see him in person but you see what he's doing on a daily basis. He paints the masterpiece of love that swoons our hearts. I may not know much about life but I do know I am happier after I invited Jesus into my heart then I was before, oh, once you feel the Holy Spirit stirring within your heart on a daily basis and all the pain is gone, well, you can't deny it after that even if you tried.

    My younger sister has in the past struggled with cutting, and for me it was hard to see the influences that she let herself have take over her. Pull it together seems like such a simple statement to make when you are not dealing with it yourself but it really does take that strong crutch to lean on and god wants nothing more than to help us and to be that strong crutch for us.

    This song saved my life. In fact this band did. I was in a much worse state than I am now. I attempted suicide and failed. This band and this song in particular stopped me from attempting again. I am forever grateful for this song and this band. I believe this song is about suicide and cutting, from how the song impacts me.

    I think it's about life's problems in general. Stress, pressure, depression. Every individual is different and we all have so much we can take before we break. After we break we give up, lose hope, faith, reason and all we see is pain. This is about taking that step that leads to a better tomorrow. Letting go of yesterday and knowing Jesus is always here to help us through every day.

    They are a christian band. Seen em live talked to them personaly. And "coped" can be refered to many things. Not just drugs. August Burns Red is giving a message to enjoy life even when you face difficult obstacles that's one of the Christian moral lessons I should know I'm Catolic. And types of music can have many styles and generes its just how you feel and what you belive is what defines them.

    @bearbearbear I'm sorry but you are wrong, they are a christian band. While Yes The Song isn't About Killing Yourself Or Hurting Yourself They did have to use the video to show the bad points that life can have. But I Will Say I Do Have Under One Of My Albums Of These Guys The Genre Says Metalcore So They Really Are Both. Plus Christian Bands Can Be Screamo/Metal/Hardcore Bands And There Are Many Of Them Like Inhale Exhale.

    This song is not about cutting nor is it referencing that specific act. Its about not giving up when the going gets tough. Scars come in all shapes and sizes, emotional and physical. People can tend to hide in their shell, button their shirts, roll down their sleeves, give up, shut down, become anti-social, depressed, etc. Instead of rolling up their sleeves, diving right in, and doing the work needed to overcome.

    In general this song is talking about when someone in life is going through hard times and its to much to bare. Example "Your life fell apart in your hands, and you've got the scars to prove it. It's not the first time, and they're getting deeper." Not necessarily talking about cutting yourself but the scars of emotions and tragic events that someone may go through. When they say "Pull it together.Button up your shirt.Roll down those sleeves.Don't let them see how you've coped." They are talking about get yourself together and relax. And lastly they talk about friendship and how they will always be there for you thus this qoute "But don't turn your back on the strongest crutch you've ever had.They have always been there to brace your fall."
    Not necessarily a song about Jesus but a good song about having a hard time in life.

    The meaning of this song is that there are some tough times in life, but you can't let then "pull you under" "just like quicksand", it means to move on with life and not let anything "grip your neck", enjoy life while it lasts, its not about cutting!, however said that is a moron, ok, surprisingly these metal songs have deeper meanings to them. And I doubt their a christian band because in one of their music videos these guys get outta a car and start beating a guy up, idk, they might be, but I doubt it.

    This song is about god, not jesus, because his strongest cruth is humans and everything hes work for is us humans and the universe. The scars to prove is talking about when jesus gave his life for us. You'll see that in the music video that he is the one beating himself up and then he is the one helping himself up and that in the end he looks back but keeps on walking forward.
