Alter Bridge – Blackbird lyrics
The willow it weeps today
A breeze from the distance is calling your name
Unfurl your black wings and wait
Across the horizon it's coming to sweep you away
It's coming to sweep you away

[Chorus:]
Let the wind carry your home
Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again

The fragile cannot endure
The wrecked and the jaded a place so impure
The static of this cruel world
Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day
Long before they've seen their day

[Chorus:]
Let the wind carry your home
Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again

Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again

Ascend may you find no resistance
Know that you made such a difference
All you leave behind will live to the end
The cycle of suffering goes on
But memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again

[Chorus:]
Let the wind carry your home
Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again

Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
May you never be broken again

This song sums up loss of someone close. When I un expectly lost my 2 day old daughter this song summed up the raw emotions my wife and I had. The willow is the family, the first verse is about the unforseen un expected, Doctor saying "there is a problem with your daughters heart", the second verse is about acceptance, she was fragile and she could not endure this world perfect as she was, the third verse is about letting go, she showed us that we could love as parents, holding your own baby is so unique, and the memories of her are always strong, even now and we will join her again one day when it is our time to fly. She will never be broken again.

This song sounds like it is talking about someone who has been through a lot of suffering and is finally finding freedom. The Blackbird is this person. I think the 'flying away' is symbolizing freedom from this world because it can be so cruel. 'Flying away' also could mean death, and the person who died probably died really young because in the song it says, "The static of this cruel world Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day." The willow that weeps in the first line could be the people close to this person that are crying over their loss. "Let the wind carry you home, may you never be broken again" is the peace that the Blackbird will have when it flys away. Lee X-Pozz cheehuu!

This song has a couple meaning for me.
    1) It is about a friend of yours dying and you are talking about him/her as a blackbird.
    2) It is about a friend being free, and your saying one day you will fly and see them again.
    3) It's about how life is so cruel to you or a friend; to me this world is so cruel as I am always in pain from love.

After looking at the lyrics, I believe I have somewhat of an understanding of what this song was written to express. The blackbird represents a side of the person or state of mind that needs to fly away. It's seems like he's talking about how the "weeping willow" with it's shifting characteristics in the wind was used metaphorically to represent this unstable state of mind or state of living. That when the breeze that is out of anyone's control comes over the horizon, let it sweep you away. He also seems to more directly to this state of mind as well as the personality required to endure hard times and negative feelings about where this person is in life and this person's discontent. That that it takes a strong person to stay with a person who's wrecked and jaded and in a place so impure... when he mentions that "the fragile can not endure the wrecked and the jaded, a place so impure. The static of this cruel world cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day". He goes on to say "Ascend may you find no resistance know that you made such a difference all you leave behind will live to the end. The cycle of suffering goes on but memories of you stay strong someday I too will fly and find you again" which makes me wonder if maybe this is more specifically about someone close committing suicide. If this is the case, the context of the rest of the song tells me that he doesn't resent the person for giving up or flying away from their unhappiness and that he tried to be strong and endure the person's depression or sadness, however the outcome turned out to be. That he did his best to be supportive and that even though he was not successful, he accepts the loss, holds onto the happy memories and remembers that some day he will fly and find this person again. As for the chorus, saying that he hopes the wind carries this person home, tells the blackbird to fly away and never be broken or paralyzed in sadness again. That beyond the suffering the person has known he hopes the person finds their way and will never feel broken again. He repeats this over and over again throughout the song telling me that this is the primary point of writing this song. That it's mainly an expression of acceptance and understanding and wishing the person well in the afterlife.

Dude watch a few live performances of this song and you'll hear myles say its about a friend of his who either passed or(I'm pretty sure) opted out. But the song can have various meanings depending on the listener. The song is definately about death, and it reminds me of my grampa who recently died from lung cancer and various other ailments. He was in pain the last 10 years of his life and had trouble breathing for longer. He pretty much took my fathers place after he bailed when I was really young, so this song means a lot to me atleast. Theres no way this song isn't about someone who suffered and died.
