    It's simply addressing the standards of beauty held by society now, where you have to be thin, tall, toned, with perfect eyes, nose, lips, shape of face, as well as have an hourglass figure and nothing less than this standard is accepted. This song is brilliant because it shows that the pressures face by girls in today's society to look perfect through the mass media and addresses how the concept of beauty should not be standard. We should all be accepted because we're all different. This is what makes 2ne1 so special. Their lyrics are not typical and address real issues, and this song is so suitable for girls all around because they themselves do not fit the cookie cutter definition of female kpop stars. It may sound negative, but look beyond the literal. We all have doubts about ourselves, days when we want to be perfect and beautiful literally, and accepted for our beautiful heart. You don't need plastic surgery to be beautiful. You just need to love yourself.

    I think "ugly" is about the insecurities girls face in their everyday lives. No matter how gorgeous everyone else finds you, in that person's eyes, they will never be as pretty as the beautiful girls they see in the media, schoolmates, or even their own family and friends. However I nthe video, you might notice the signs that say "plasticville", "no ugly people allowed", and "you are beautiful. " theyre trying to get across that you don't need anything but yourself to be beautiful (despite bom's struggles eventhough in her defense she was pressured by the record label, antis, and the media!) and this song is exactly why 2ne1 is beautiful to me!

    By saying "ugly", I don't think they're just talking about feeling your appearance is ugly; they're talking about not liking yourself in general for whatever reason, about thinking that there's something fundamentally wrong with you, etc. And not wanting people to lie to you and tell you that there's nothing wrong with you.
    The video, though, is definitely about the beauty standards within society that make so many beautiful people feel like they're ugly, and how they should be destroyed. 2ne1 is a great band to promote this song and message because they do not resemble your typical kpop girl group and thus receive a lot of censure about how their faces/bodies/etc. Don't resemble the beauty ideal. It might sound cliche, but it's true: every girl in 2ne1 is actually beautiful in her individual way, if you look, but they are not all skinny sticks or have the "ideal" nose or whatever, which also makes them very relatable as they are all "real" people with no manufactured beauty--except park bom, who obtained plastic surgery because her appearance was bombasted by critics, so this song is actually even more relatable to her, as she felt her looks didn't satisfy the public's demands of a female kpop singer--so they are the perfect voices to express the insecurities that everyone feels about themselves sometimes--because even the most beautiful girls can find something they hate about their appearances.

    I don't think that this song is actually about looks, it's more about emotions and other areas in life that people feel self conscious about. Physical appearance is the most obvious thing that people are selfconscious about, but disabilities, hidden negative emotions, etc are also things that people worry about others seeing and perceiving.
    The 2nd verse sticks the most with me. Even though the translation is "don't tell me that you can understand me so easily/my ugly and crooked heart may even come to resent you" I feel like that can also mean, "don't come close to me because you'll see how dark and ugly my heart really is and hate me for it"
    But I like this song because 1 it's catchy, 2 I feel like I relate to this song a lot, and 3 it's a lot like the inspirational songs that have come out recently, like born this way, perfect, who says, firework, etc.

    I am a big fan of 2ne1 and I want to tell you all who are thinking that this song is like it's title that I know that we are all beautiful in god's eyes but if you read the lyrics you would see that they are saying: "i think I'm ugly and nobody wants to love me' it means that they think they are ugly because nobody want to love them and we all know that ugly people are the less likeable people and that's the reason why they think they are ugly. Thank you very much.

    You don't have to be skinny and tall to be beautiful. you just need to be yourself and that should be enough. The world shouldn't set standards on how they want you to be. don't judge a book by it's cover. Do what you want (to an extent) and do what makes you happy. set your own trend! you can easily tell that on magazine covers more than half of those men and women are 'fake'. You can usually see it right upon looking at it and what's with the 'ideal' person always being like a stick figure? I personally think that's gross but that's just me. I'm 200 pounds and thanks to the confidence that 2NE1 has given me over the years I actually feel beautiful. A "pretty" face isn't everything

    Does it matter if you have the looks on the outside? The fake attitude that everyone knows and loves that yu act out everyday?
    When in actual truth, on the inside, that's not you. Why does it have to be a certain way for you to be accepted by the people around you because to them; to you; being yourself is being ugly.
    So sing this song. And touch your heart with every word. And then. Be yourself. Because even its ugly, its you.
    And that is beauty.

    Our standard of beauty today is decided by what we're bombarded with: picture perfect plastic girls. It's hard to find your self-esteem in such a pressurising society, if all that you see is those perfect pretty girls, and you begin to think that's beauty, and that's all to it. From a teenager who suffered from low self-esteem, so much so I coop myself up at home. I have found my self-esteem somehow, and have seen the overlooked side of beauty: inner beauty.

    Well, ugly, in my eyes is about the girls who are different from everyone else and they hate it. They don't think they are good enough and they don't want people to base everything on looks, but rather who they honestly are on the inside. But if you look at the english translations before they say "i think im ugly" they sing "this world is full of lies" so either they are saying that they are pretty and the whole song is flipped or that if anyone says something bad about them that is just what they think and it doesn't matter cause it's not true. Everyone is beautiful in there own way. Love who you are.

    I think that people saying they hate this song because they think 'everyone is beautiful' is annoying. No offense.
    The song isn't saying that this person or that person is ugly.
    It's conveying an emotion. I'm a teenage girl, and I think this way sometimes about myself. My friends think this way too, but not all the time. It's that feeling of not being good enough, and wanting to be like someone else.

    This song is really personal and touching. They're actually really bringing reality and the fact that a lot of people wish that they are not who they are. Always want be somebody else. A lot of people saying, it's wrong to feel that way, you should love yourself, etc. But in the end of the day, we are human. We feel a lot of things, and experience a lot of thing. Its not wrong to feel that way, and nothing to be shamed about. That's life. That's human nature. And they bring it up instead of making lyric saying that "you are beutiful, no matter people say". They bring up the dark part of life, and that's true. And nothing wrong about it. Because they're honest to themselves.

    I personally love this song! Even though it's so negative. Cuz being ugly doesn't always mean physically ugly. It can also mean that you're a problem child, like, you cause a bunch of problems and all that. (well that's what Teddy said on 2ne1 tv ^-^) and to all those people who don't even get the true message og this song go and freaking re-Read it and watch the mv until you get the true messege! >=0 as the other comment said this song means that everyone is pretty as long as their confident with their self! And again as the other comment said that they were throwing paint balls at the wall called plastic zone in the mv. Meaning that not everyone who had plastic surgery is beautiful or pretty. You guys saying that this is the worst song ever. You're frekaing only looking at the chorus and not getting the true message. =__=.

    In my opinion, this song means that everyone is pretty as long as they're confident with their self, you don't need to change or hide it with doing some plastic surgery, etc. Just look at the part when they're throw some colour ball to the store titled plactic zone and you are beautiful in the mv. That means that not everyone who had plastic surgery is pretty and you have to be proud of yourself even if you're actually ugly.
