I think the meaning of this song talks about a relationship that she actually realised was just a bubble of what she thought it was.«Everything lies in disguise» She knows not everything is how it pretends to be,things are very different from what she thought they were.She feels threatened,she doesn't recognize the person she's with,she realises she never even knew him because she was blinded and scared by the love she gave him.«How can I love you,once again,without losing my mind» She can't forgive herself and everytime she remembers his eyes looking for her weal,the shadows of the past come back.I think the title «empty note» portrays the fact that there was nothing left to say,but most of all there was nothing real in the firrst place

I think she is talking about a previous relationship where she thought that was perfect but then she found out that everything was a lie. All of the things that her significant other told her, was only a pretend, and she can hardly believe it, she doesn't want to believe it and wants to go back to the toxic relationship but then her head interferes asking those questions of how can she trust him or this relationship anymore. She feels lost and hesitant, with many questions popping in her head. At last, they have nothing to say anymore.

To me the title says enough. Musically a half note is played for half the duration of a full note, a full note is consequently played fully. An Empty Note? By extrapolating it is music written but never played, never heard. That to me is what the song really is, a lamentation about what could be but never was. The music could be beautiful but lacking any sound, substance, what does it matter?

The rest of the song? It still talks about the doubt. The lack of substance. Hidden intentions and distances apart.
This might sound overly cynical but really to me the song could be addressed to a lost love, missed opportunity. The type common now. Perhaps most fitting a long distance relation that never panned out because of fear, dishonesty, lies, reluctance to see things for what they are- blindness-, and of course distance.
Music never played. Empty notes.

Of course as with anything artistic it could be something else entirely. So whatever you see in it, that's probably just as true.
